Paradise Garage Legendary Dee Jay David DePino Great job...Larry would have loved it.
The words "Alternative Facts" has slipped out the lips of every American, being under sharp criticism from journalists and media organizations and being the butt of all jokes by the savagery of social media.
"There was really no concept in saying 'I'll think I'll go make a track about 'Alternative Facts', no," Mikki says. "It didn't happen that way, it chose me, I didn't choose it."
The phrase went viral when it was used by U.S. Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway during a Meet the Press interview on January 22, 2017, in which she defended White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer's false statement about the attendance at Donald Trump's inauguration as President of the United States.
"The main point of making 'Alternative Facts' I guess actually..which is crazy the day that I was watching the news, and she said it, I was looking at her like 'Did she just say that?'" Mikki explains. "Before I can say anything, Chuck Todd asked her what she meant because there are no alternative facts. But if you read in 1994, they do use that term 'alternative facts', but it's just the same term as a lie."
"Alternative Facts" is not your typical souful house track. It's on a more progressive level, going more into Euro Beat.
"As an artist I wanted to show various sides of me being a producer," says Mikki. "I started with this beat. The track reminds me of " Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" by Was(Not Was) 1982 a Paradise Garage classic.
"I want the listener to be woke," Mikki says. "I played it at the Winter Music Conference this past March and the dancers went banana's. I wanted the snares drums to sound like a military marching band.
Which I use as the hook in the track. The dancers got it right away. For me that's the most important thing, am I connecting with the dancers.
I knew I wanted to make a video, but I didn't really want to make it too political, but show the conspiracy theory's that we have always thought about in the US. The opening scene is an eye opener. The video was directed by myself and actor Adrian Luke Sinclair.
He was wonderful is executing my concept.
I also had my niece in editing a few scenes for me, she's a junior in film school. But it was Luke who totally brought the video to life.
In the visuals to the track, it leaves a quote: "No matter what we go through, we still dance."
"I remember 9/11 and seeing both buildings crumble, having lost people that were dear to me and coworkers, I never forgot that chapter of history. This happened on a Tuesday 9/11 " Mikki explains. "and that Friday on 9/14, there were parties that told us, 'Let's not cry, let's unite. Let's dance,' and no matter what's going on in the world, we just dance."
In the spike of all the madness in the world today Soul Sun Soul Music is definitely music to heal your soul.
